AIF-C01 practice question: AI, ML and deep learning basics (2 of 2)
Fundamentals of AI and ML A free question from our original AIF-C01 practice exam. Try it, then open the answer to see why each option is right or wrong.
A travel company already has a generative AI chatbot that answers questions about its policies. It now wants a system that, given the goal "rebook this customer's cancelled flight", works out the steps, calls the booking and payment APIs, and checks the result. Which kind of AI describes this new system?
Choose one answer.
- AA. A computer vision model that classifies images of boarding passes
- BB. A clustering model that groups customers by their travel history
- CC. Agentic AI that plans steps and uses tools to act towards a goal
- DD. A larger generative AI chatbot that writes longer answers
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: C
- A. Wrong: Computer vision extracts information from images and video. Nothing in the goal involves analysing images.
- B. Wrong: Clustering is unsupervised learning that finds groups in data. It does not plan steps or take actions.
- C. Right: Correct. An AI agent is given a goal, decides the actions needed, calls external tools or APIs, and checks the outcome.
- D. Wrong: A chatbot that only generates text cannot carry out the rebooking. Making it bigger does not give it the ability to act.
Explanation
Generative AI creates content such as text or images in response to a prompt. Agentic AI goes further: an agent uses a foundation model to reason about a goal, breaks it into steps, calls tools such as APIs, and uses the results to decide what to do next. That ability to act, not just answer, is the difference this question tests.
