A company already runs its containerised applications on Kubernetes in its own data centre. It wants to move them to AWS and keep using standard Kubernetes tools, without operating the Kubernetes control plane itself. Which service should it use?
Choose one answer.
- AA. Amazon Elastic Container Registry (Amazon ECR)
- BB. Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service (Amazon EKS)
- CC. AWS Lambda
- DD. Amazon Lightsail
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: B
- A. Wrong: ECR stores container images. It does not run or orchestrate containers.
- B. Right: Correct. EKS is AWS's managed Kubernetes service. AWS runs the control plane, and applications built for Kubernetes run without refactoring.
- C. Wrong: Lambda runs functions in response to events. It is not a Kubernetes service.
- D. Wrong: Lightsail offers simple virtual servers and bundles. It does not provide managed Kubernetes clusters.
Explanation
Amazon EKS runs Kubernetes on AWS. AWS manages the Kubernetes control plane, and because EKS is certified Kubernetes-conformant, existing applications and community tools work without changes. Amazon ECS is AWS's own container orchestrator, and either can run containers on AWS Fargate to avoid managing servers.
