A company wants one place to create backup policies that automatically back up its Amazon EBS volumes, Amazon RDS databases, Amazon DynamoDB tables and Amazon EFS file systems on a schedule, and keep the backups for a set period. Which service should it use?
Choose one answer.
- AA. AWS Storage Gateway
- BB. AWS DataSync
- CC. Amazon S3 Lifecycle
- DD. AWS Backup
Show the answer and explanation
Answer: D
- A. Wrong: Storage Gateway gives on-premises applications access to cloud storage. It is not a central backup policy service for AWS resources.
- B. Wrong: DataSync moves and copies data between storage systems. It does not manage scheduled backups with retention rules.
- C. Wrong: Lifecycle rules move or delete S3 objects. They do not back up EBS, RDS, DynamoDB or EFS.
- D. Right: Correct. AWS Backup centralises and automates data protection across many AWS services using backup plans with schedules and retention.
Explanation
AWS Backup is a fully managed service that replaces service-by-service backup scripts. A backup plan sets the schedule, retention and copy rules, and resources can be assigned to it by tag. It supports services including EC2, EBS, S3, EFS, RDS, Aurora and DynamoDB, and can copy backups to other Regions or accounts.
